Have you ever visited the salon but after a day or two wondered what went wrong?
Perhaps your hair looked nice when you left, the salon has a good reputation, and the stylist certainly seemed to know what they were doing. Well if that’s the case then there is a good chance there was not enough communication during the consultation.
When people meet me for the first time the most common thing I am asked is “what kind of haircut goes with my face ? “ I know some celebrity stylists like to play this up for television and magazines and while that can be important if you would look to significantly downplay a particular feature, in many cases it’s not the most important thing in my opinion. Rather it’s part of a larger picture, it’s these other parts that are more useful .
The areas I like to consider are,
Personality,
hair texture and density,
lifestyle ( are you a sporty or a posh ? ) face shape/head shape.
Rather than mainly focusing only on your face shape some other things you can discuss are -
your comfort zone regarding your length
-is there something, in particular, you would like to see changed?
- Do you have any cowlicks
- Is there anything you know you do and don’t like in a hairstyle or cut?
- Do you have any challenges w your hair?
- what is your styling routine?
- What do you like most about your hair?
Don’t be self-conscience about taking the lead before asking for their feedback, trust me your stylist will likely appreciate you being so well prepared. After all when you’re happy so are they.
